Lou McLaren is a craftsperson who works with a wide range of media but her lifelong passion is wire. Living in Pembrokeshire, Wales she is surrounded by beautiful coastlines so it is inevitable that there is a strong influence of nature within her work.
Having drawn and painted detailed studies of wildlife, insects, flowers and trees from an early age, it is from this deep love and understanding of nature that she builds her wirework on. She uses 'found' wood for her initial inspiration, swarovski crystals & beads to give another dimension and a unique enamel technique to create a luminous effect which is not unlike stained glass. All her sculptures seem to be brimming with life, have a voice of their own and speak for themselves.
